Kind of a difficult card to 'cap. It's clear the UFC wants to push certain TUF alumni without booking any outright squash matches. As far as the 'dogs go, I like Sell the most. He's going to have a very competitive fight with Quarry. Their skill level is about equal, but Sell has a bigger frame and is ten years younger. It may be the closest fight on the card.

Spratt is likely to get controlled on the mat by Koscheck; Cote is a bigger, better version of Leben; Hoger is there to get steamrolled by Bonnar; Salaverry/Marquardt should be very good.

The only bet that looks too easy on paper is Bonnar. Hoger looks really soft to me. Bonnar just looks so strong at that weight. Im really looking forward to Quarry fighting. He impressed me last time.

Also, Ill def take Cote over Leben

That Marquart fight sure was a dud.

As you'd guess, I'm very pleased with last nights results. The early fights were much more intertaining than the later ones. The two suprises to me were the early knockout by Nate Quarry(my favorite of the season one fighters--even though he didn't get to fight) and the lack of agressiveness from Salaverry in the main event.
In Salaverry's last two fights, he just smashed his opponents early and looked good doing so. When 'capping last nights card, I was very strong on the 3 TUF fighters and played them for a full unit. I had been reading about Marquart and his sucesses in Japan and in the Brazilian Ju-jitsu fighting style and I thought that he had a decent chance against Salaverry if he stayed away from him to avoid getting caught in a submission hold.
Boring damn fight--I'd have booed them, too. Hogar showed me a lot; thought he was a softie but anyone who trains with Miletich can't be too soft--should give us a nice price against Bonnar in his next fight; he was clearly gassed in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and I assume he will be in with a more experienced fighter next time out...

One more thing...

Koscheck did look really good at this weight. Like Mike Swick, he competed in TUF at a higher weight class and its clear that both he and Swick are dangerous dudes at their natural weights...Should be entertaining seeing these guys in their next fights.

Also was suprised to hear at the begining of last nights shows that was the 1st of 6 planned live UFC cards for Spike TV. I watch all the PPVs, but not having to get some people together every 3 months to share the PPV price was kind of nice, and I look forward to the Spike TV broadcasts.....:toast:

UFC is getting big, I love it. I ve been a fan for a long time so its nice to see casual fans starting to enjoy it. I was really impressed with how some of the shows fighters won. These guys are pretty good. Leban impressed me the most because he really had to fight through some adversity. Cote is a tough guy.

Are you normally good at picking these fights? Might have to tail your pics if you are.

Like all my wagering, I've had some good successes, like this weekend; and some not so good cards, too. I've been betting the UFC almost since they started posting lines on it, and I'm up a little bit overall.

Pat Miletich is one of the legends of the UFC and since he has retired he has opened a gym here in the area and has a training center for UFC fighters. Sam Hogar trains here, as well as UFC champion Matt Hughes, heavyweight Tim Silvia, and others whom you may or may not have heard of.
A bar that is no long open used to have weekly MMA cards and I used to attend them frequently. I have a wrestling background from high school, and I did a bit of boxing in my younger days, so the UFC/MMA events really hold my attention. Its cool that I can sometimes even make a few dollars from betting on it.

I'm sure I'll have a few plays for the Aug 20th card featuring Liddell and Couture...:drink:
